Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix Liquid

my choice from The Nutrition Centre Cheltenham

Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix Liquid
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix is an intense electrolyte liquid, sourced from the Great Salt Lake, Utah in the USA.
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix contains Electrolytes, which are mineral salts dissolved in the body’s blood and fluid, they carry an electric charge and therefore can affect the blood’s pH and muscle function.
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix’s mineral salts includes: Sodium, chloride, magnesium and potassium. These are involved in balancing the fluid throughout the body including the volume of fluid within the blood.
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix benefits:

Water movement is controlled by the concentration of electrolytes on either side of the cell membrane. Exercise increases fluid loss through sweat. If this fluid is not replaced then dehydration will occur. Dehydration impairs performance as blood volume

decreases and body temperature increases; extra strain will be put on the heart and lungs. The loss of fluid will also lead to an electrolyte imbalance as sodium and potassium are lost through the skin. This imbalance can cause a disruption to the cell’s ability to carry electrical charges and hence reduce athletic performance.
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix contains all the necessary electrolytes in an ionic form as well as all other minerals naturally present in sea water. Ionic refers to the mineral being ionically charged (attached to a negatively charged mineral complex). It is important that the electrolytes are present in an ionic form as this is necessary for effective hydration.
In a study looking into the importance of electrolytes for rehydration, eight participants consumed plain water, and eight participants consumed water plus an electrolyte additive. The addition of an electrolyte mixture to plain water decreased the overall fluid levels required for optimal hydration compared to the plain water group. Supplementing water with electrolytes can therefore minimize carrying excessive weight, possibly reducing fatigue during extended exercise.
Viridian Sports Electrolyte Fix is comprised of a blend of naturally occurring brine from the Great Salt Lake containing sodium, magnesium, chloride and potassium as well as vast array of other trace and ultra trace elements.

Perfect Hot Yoga Preparation.

Perfect Hot Yoga Preparation.

3 Days before class
Avoid caffeine and start increasing water intake.

1 day before class
Drink 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight. Example you weight 10 stones/140 pounds you must drink 70 ounces/3.5pints of water

Get Your Kit Together
You must bring a towel – ideally a large one to cover your (optional) yoga mat and a small face towel.

You should come dressed for the beach – that means as little as modestly possible. Your skin needs to sweat – technical fabrics like dri-fit – will encourage it’s healthy cooling effect.

Hot Yoga Day
3 or more hours Pre Class
Eat a light fruit based breakfast. Add avocado, nuts and seeds and perhaps some oatmeal to make an energising smoothie.

2 hours Pre Class
Sip water – large quantities will ‘interrupt’ your practise. (loo visits)
Fast – no more food until after class.

Arrive in good time for your Class
Find your spot as directed
Set out your towel
Face towel and
Drink bottle- make sure it’s full.
Expect to drink 4oz every 15 minutes.

During Class
You may rest in child’s pose on the mat or find a cooler spot at anytime AFTER pose 3.
However, stay in the room if at all possible, to get used to the heat and humidity.

After Class
Re-Hydrate, re- hydrate Coconut water or a sports drink. You need electrolytes and water.
Re-feed – your post workout nutrition will have a HUGE effect on both weigh and fat loss.
Choose easily absorbed carbohydrates and fast acting proteins

Post Workout Nutrition RECIPE
1 bottle Lucozade Sport (not diet) plus 20g of your chosen protein powder. Within 20-40 minutes of the end of your class. This will promote muscle repair and growth plus energy replacement. You might bring this with you to class.

Hope to see you soon.

Tips Before You Start Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga Tips #1
Bring to class: a water bottle, a beach-size towel, and your yoga mat ( although we have a nice padded floor- so don’t worry if you don’t have one)

3 Metabolism Tools

3 Easy Metabolism Tools

Use these tools to get healthy, get leaner, boost performance faster and ultimately boost your metabolism.

Tool #1 – Get Enough Sleep

20130926-231936.jpg

Sleep is perhaps the most under appreciated element of health, strength and fat loss.

It is responsible for the resetting and regulation of your hormonal system and for that reason it is critical in helping you to create a hormonal environment that supports a fast metabolism and rapid fat loss.

General Recommendations: Sleep a minimum of 6 hours per night with a goal of averaging 7.5-9 hours. Get the highest quality sleep you can by sleeping in a pitch black room and avoiding television and other bright dynamic lights for at least 30 minutes before bed.
If you have trouble falling asleep, focus your thoughts and decide you want to sleep, ALLOW yourself to sleep, practise belly breathing to get into a relaxed sate.
If your mind is racing – you will need to find coping skills to reduce your stress levels, but gentle music might help calm your thoughts.

I use a sleep app, with added features that also track my health, diet and activity status. The stats help me identify stressors and how best to remove them.

Tool #2 – Drink Lots Of Cold Water

20130926-231745.jpg

Most people don’t drink enough water to support their metabolism and detoxification. To start with you must drink enough water in order for your body to function properly.

In addition to quantity, by drinking your water cold (exclusively before meals, not after) you can accelerate your metabolism even further. This is accomplished through a process called thermogenic homeostasis.

What this means is your body likes to be a certain temperature, 98.6 degrees to be exact. When something forces your body to cool down below this temperature your body will react by producing heat.

This production of heat requires calories and so will increase your metabolism.

General Recommendations: Drink 32oz (1L) of fresh cold water first thing in the morning and 16oz (0.5L) of fresh cold water before each meal. Do not consume cold water after your meals as this can negatively affect digestion.

Tool #3 – Start Walking Daily

20130926-231430.jpg

Walking is perhaps the best add-on fat burning exercise EVER!

In addition to your HIIT and other Metabolic training walking will help flush blood through your muscles and help your body deal with the waste products of high intensity exercise.

By walking every day you can reduce stress, clear your head, get fresh air and absorb some much needed sunshine.

General Recommendations: Start by walking a minimum of 15 minutes every day. From there work up to 20+ minutes of brisk walking daily, preferably in an outdoor setting where you can get fresh air and sunshine.

Think about how you could walk at lunchtime…. Fresh air, an opportunity for a mind clearing break and your daily vitamin D!

Why Your Scales Lie !

Water Weight and Fat Are Not the Same
You might think that is an obvious statement, but if it were, there wouldn’t be so many people wondering why they’re working out but gaining weight. This water weight is good weight. It is fuel within the muscles for high-intensity exercise. It is going to make your muscles look full, and keep the cells hydrated so they can do their job efficiently.
It is so important that you get over the idea of weight during your weight loss program. You’d be better off calling it a fat loss program. That’s what you’re trying to do anyways, isn’t it? Weight fluctuates drastically even during a small window of time. Fat loss is a much more stable process.
